Who else but a specialist surgeon would you trust your future to?

Although you may only require one operation in your lifetime, a poorly performed procedure can result in complications that may last for months or years.

The fees charged by Fellows of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) reflect the high degree of expertise they have acquired over many years of rigorous study and training. Their FRACS qualification is the only one in Australia that guarantees you're dealing with a highly trained surgeon.

As a specialist FRACS surgeon, Dr Beldholm has undergone more than 12 years of medical and surgical training, including two years with the Australian College of Cosmetic Surgery.

Following is a summary of Dr Beldholm's fees for:
  • Cosmetic surgery
  • General surgical, laparoscopic and varicose vein procedures
  • Gastroscopy and colonoscopy
  • Skin cancer excision and reconstruction

Please note that Dr Beldholm does not bulk bill and that all surgical fees are due in advance on the day of the pre-surgery consultation. Payments may be made in cash or via EFTPOS. No operation is booked prior to payment being received. For comprehensive information regarding Medicare rebates, gap payments and private hospital insurance, please refer to the FAQ section.

Cosmetic surgery

There is no charge for the initial consultation. As there are a number of variables involved in the final price of every cosmetic surgery procedure, it's not possible to provide exact figures for operations prior to Dr Beldholm consulting with patients.

Dr Beldholm's surgical fee remains the same regardless of whether the procedure is performed at a fully accredited hospital in Sydney or Maitland. However, various other fees will vary from hospital to hospital. Patients with private insurance may be reimbursed their hospital costs if their procedures have Medicare item numbers.

Although Dr Beldholm generally uses a specialist anaesthetist for his procedures, a small number of Sydney-based operations require only local anaesthetic, thereby substantially reducing patient costs.

As Dr Beldholm strongly believes that post-operative consultations are a major part of every cosmetic surgery procedure, he does not charge for these.

General surgical, laparoscopic and varicose vein procedures

Dr Beldholm's initial consultation fee is $150, with about 50 per cent of this cost reimbursed via Medicare. All operations are charged at Australian Medical Association (AMA) rates, with the exception of gastroscopies and colonoscopies. For information on these procedures, please refer to the following section. Most procedures require a specialist anaesthetist who also currently charges AMA rates.

Patients are not out of pocket for follow-up consultations as these are charged at Medicare rates. Those requiring more than one surgical procedure will have these charged to their relevant health fund.

Gastroscopy and colonoscopy

Dr Beldholm has a fast track endoscopy service for GPs to help reduce waiting times for their patients. Gastroscopy and colonoscopy services are charged at Medicare or private health fund no gap rates, meaning no costs for patients.

Skin cancer excision and reconstruction

As there are many nerves and other structures in the face that can be damaged, it takes great skill and artistry to obtain cosmetically acceptable results following a skin cancer excision. The fees charged for reconstruction procedures reflect the highly complicated and technical nature of the surgery.

It is not possible to advise patients in advance what costs will be charged as the Medicare item numbers vary, based upon the microscopic analysis of tissue that is surgically removed during skin cancer excisions. Patients receive an itemized bill once the results are back so that they can claim from Medicare and/or their health funds.

Generally, simple excisions anywhere on the body cost in the region of $1000 for every skin cancer. Complex excisions (where a skin cancer is removed and the defect requires a flap or skin graft to reconstruct) cost $2000. If any re-excisions are required, these are charged at a no gap rate and sent to the patient's health fund, meaning no out of pocket expenses.

Dr Beldholm uses specialist anaesthetists and operates only in accredited hospitals.
